Lighted Kindle Cover

If you are one of the thousands of lucky people that received a new generation Kindle® reader over the holidays, congratulations. The new generation Kindle is featherlight (especially compared to my Kndle DX), with improved readability and a smaller price tag.
If you did not recieve a cover with your new Kindle, you might be wondering how to choose between the plethora of choices out there. If you like to read in bed, or just on the plane, the lighted Kindle cover is an excellent choice.
Why would you pay $60.00 (almost half the price of a wireless only Kindle just for a cover? Well for one reason, if you want to take your Kindle with you you do need something to protect your screen from the damage that tossing it into your purse, briefcase or beach bag can cause. Some people like the vaguely booklike feel of the Kindle with a folding cover that is reminicent of a traditional book. So odds are that you will end up with some type of protection for that new Kindle.
Gadget Geezer recommends the Kindle lighted cover. The three led lights slide out of the upper right corner of the cover and automatically illuminate when pulled out. The light has a natural curve to provide the most efficient angle of lighting for the screen. When you are not using the light it retracts into the cover and is completely unobtrusive. Because the cover connects to the reader using the anchor holes already manufactured into the Kindle, the cover remains securily attached to the reader. Best of all the connection also provides the power to the light from the Kindle battery, so there is no additional batteries to worry about charging. Of course this will affect the length of charge on the Kindle battery, but that is a price that most readers will be willing to pay for the convienience.

The leather cover has a substantial feel. The elastic band that keeps the cover closed is effective and unobtrusive when the cover is opened. The covers are available in six different colors from black to hot pink.
Don't read at night in bed? An unlighted version is available for $35.00. Both are available at Amazon.com. Happy reading!
